Laurie Shelton grew up in the small town of Ben Bolt, near Alice, in the heart of south Texas where her family has deep roots in the local ranching and farming industries. Laurie has lifelong experience with horses and cattle. She participated in FFA and 4-H activities throughout elementary and high school. She was also an active rodeo competitor and earned titles in several events. Laurie married Denman Shelton in 1999. Denman is both a graduate student in Parasitology at Texas A&M and a 2nd year veterinary student.
From as early as she can remember, Laurie has wanted to be a veterinarian. She earned a B.S. in Biology from Saint Edward's University, Austin, TX, and went on to earn her D.V.M. degree from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine.
After graduating vet school Laurie worked at Waller Equine Hospital, a booming referral hospital northwest of Houston. The caseload ranged from the routine to the truly bizarre and Laurie
obtained invaluable experience
in emergency
equine medicine and surgery.
Laurie opened Hilltop Equine Veterinary Services with the intention of providing excellent equine veterinary care to her
clients in Washington and surrounding counties. Her mobile
practice utilizes a full range of contemporary diagnostics, including radiography (X-ray),
ultrasound, and endoscopy. Laurie is available for consultations and
routine appointments during the daytime and on Saturday, and she
provides her clients with 24 hour emergency service.
